Stream Bank Stabilization

In order to protect the streams banks we installed a series of bendway weirs. The purpose of the weir is to redirect the streams flow back to the middle of stream and not along the steep banks.

Projects were funded with help from the Illinois Department of Agriculture's Stream Bank Stabilization Grant. All proper permits where obtained prior to work begining.

The following are pictures of the project being installed and finished
(Click each picture for an enlarged picture).

1. The contractor tows into the stream's bank. This will help protect the bendway weir. 2. Rock is then placed into the toed area and out into the stream until the weirs proper length is obtained. 3. The contractor is reshaping the rock to meet the weirs hieght requirements.
4. Looking up stream towards the North, two completed bendway weirs. 5. Looking down stream toward the South, The completed project with 5 weirs in the stream channel. 6. Looking up stream after the bend towards the West. The completed project with the last three weirs in the stream channel.
